Description

Coffee drinkers can now enjoy the finest offsets with their coffee that come with an Eco-Guarantee.

Here is the situation. Coffee is very energy intensive and requires approximately 100lbs. of CO2e removal for every 1 lbs of coffee produced and consumed.

Central America as a whole, is the largest producer of high quality arabica coffee beans in the world. Increasing global consumption, climate change and continued rural poverty in most producing regions threaten the last remaining tropical forests.

Cafe Solar® has 25 years of on the ground work, measuring forests throughout Central America and developing viable solutions to many of the inherent and complex issues associated with coffee production. Integrated Open Canopy™ (IOC™) Growing combined with Carbon Neutral Processing produces high quality coffee and high quality forest restoring offsets.

Transparency and integrity offer the greatest chances at protecting threatened national parks, forests, ecosystems and people … with coffee. Years of research and development have concluded that the protection of parks and the restoration of forests requires that coffee growers get access to the income generated from the carbon markets. To protect forests, the sale of offsets generated at the farm level provide supplemental income and incentive.

Tropical forests are the fasted growing forests and achieve optimal sequestration within 5 years. North American forest require 20 to 60 years by comparison. This is the only real paths to sustainability available in coffee today. Cafe Solar® Offsets are the first of their kind and they weren’t created overnight. It started in 1996. See Picture of migratory book.

Buy it by the ton, by the pound, or by the cup. Enrich your coffee, feel great and with no bitterness.

When you offset your coffee’s footprint you are only adding somewhere between $0.02-$0.04 cent per cup to you daily habit. This is not a lot but it adds up to major coffee fix.

Here is the full math: Cafe Solar® Forest Coffee Offsets are purchased at an initial price of $20.00 USD per metric ton. Average consumption per capita is between 9-20lbs of coffee per year. Each ton of carbon will offset 22.04 lbs of coffee. Using a 10 grams per cup measurement, makes 1001 cups which equals $0.025 cents per cup. Stronger cups, using 15 grams per cup makes 667 cups which equals $0.038 per cup. Please calculate your own coffee footprint and buy as many tons as you can. Most coffee packaging comes with a major environmental footprint. Plastic + foil-lined bags (used extensively in specialty coffee & tea) cannot be recycled and last for years in landfills ...

We haves a strict ‘no plastic policy’ and we have been selling our coffees in what we like to call “premium brown bags” for over 25 years. (And we operate almost 100% plastic-free ... packaging always being an area for improvement)

Our "premium brown bags" are composed of 100% natural materials: post-consumer kraft paper, PLA (corn-based) lining, and a tin-tie. To recycle: Remove the tin-tie and recycle the bag.

A label/seal is required to ensure our coffees are fresh, traceable, and free from tampering. Our standard Merchants’ label/seal is composed of paper, adhesive, and ink; and can be recycled along with the bag.
