Definition of Restorative Coffee
- An approach to coffee production based both on conservation agriculture (which aims to produce food while preserving the environment); and restoration ecology (which aims to restore degraded or destroyed ecosystems by way of active human activity).
- Related: By definition, any coffee deemed to be “restorative coffee” must make use of the latest research and innovations in sustainable coffee production and agroforestry; including but not limited to regenerative agriculture, organic agriculture, land-sparing, composting, off-grid processing, and female management. A system of restorative coffee production results in reduced carbon emissions, improved soil conditions, the growth and protection of primary forests, improved biodiversity, increases in pollinator numbers, protection of endangered species (including migratory birds), improvement of natural watersheds, and more.
